On a Wednesday afternoon in Fort Mohave, Arizona, the life of Larry Billy Burton Marcum, a 41-year-old Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. The events of May 19, 2021, unfolded in the parking lot of a local Walmart, stemming from a confrontation over reckless driving. Marcum, a married father of five and a skilled contractor known for his generosity and love for animals, had observed a motorcyclist driving in a manner he deemed unsafe along Highway 95.
Following the motorcyclist,
who was later identified as 23-year-old Jim Douglas Mosier of Bullhead City, into the Walmart parking lot, Marcum decided to confront him. What began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated. During the heated argument in front of the store, both men reportedly drew handguns. Marcum eventually holstered his weapon, but the altercation continued.
As the confrontation became physical, with Marcum attempting to kick Mosier, Mosier allegedly fired a single shot, striking Marcum in the upper chest. Onlookers rushed to provide first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. Marcum was transported to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. One of Marcum's sons was reportedly in his vehicle and witnessed the fatal shooting of his father.
Following the incident, Mosier holstered his handgun and called 911 himself. After an investigation that included witness interviews and a review of surveillance footage, Jim Douglas Mosier was arrested and booked into the Mohave County Detention Facility. He was charged with Second Degree Murder in connection with the death of Larry Billy Burton Marcum.
