In the summer of 2021, a fatal shooting in Sierra Vista, Arizona, claimed the life of 25-year-old Honeylynne Minnie Garcia and her boyfriend, Landan James Klein, also 25. The incident, which took place on the evening of July 13 outside a restaurant on Fry Boulevard, was reportedly connected to a drug debt.
Surveillance footage from the scene captured the violent encounter.
The video showed Klein approaching a parked Dodge Challenger and having a brief conversation with the driver, identified as 21-year-old Devon Nathaniel Neff. After Klein punched Neff multiple times, Neff fired a gun from his window, causing Klein to run away. Neff then exited his vehicle, and as the passenger door of Klein's Chrysler 300 opened, he shot Garcia. He then fired at her several more times before fleeing the scene. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene, while Klein died shortly after at Canyon Vista Medical Center.
In a surprising turn, Neff contacted the police shortly after the incident to turn himself in. He initially claimed self-defense, a statement that was contradicted by the surveillance footage. Neff was subsequently arrested and held on charges of premeditated first-degree murder and intentional second-degree murder.
The day after the killings, while police were conducting surveillance on the home Garcia and Klein shared, two of Garcia's brothers, DJ Leeroyce Garcia, 27, and Roger Carlos Garcia, 21, were seen removing items from the residence. The brothers, who had driven from California after learning of their sister's death, were found to be in possession of illegal drugs, cash, several firearms, and their sister's passport and birth certificate. They were arrested and later entered into plea deals related to the removal of these items from the home.
