On October 28, 2017, 34-year-old Karen Wrentzel was fatally shot by a hunter while digging for gemstones on her property in Hebron, Maine. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on the opening day of deer hunting season for Maine residents. The shooter, 38-year-old Robert Trundy, later told authorities he believed he was aiming at a deer, though he admitted he never clearly identified his target before firing from approximately 200 feet away.
