On April 25, 2018, Corporal Eugene Cole, a 61-year-old deputy with the Somerset County Sheriff's Office in Maine, was fatally shot in Norridgewock. The incident occurred between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m. when Cole encountered 29-year-old John Williams, who was out on bond for a previous weapons charge.
