On July 11, 2019, David Auclair, 45, of Williston, Vermont, was found dead in the parking lot of the LaPlatte Headwaters Town Forest trailhead in Hinesburg. Responding to reports of gunshots around 10:40 p.m., Hinesburg police discovered his body near his gray 2017 GMC pickup truck. An autopsy later confirmed that Auclair had been shot multiple times, with his body partially positioned under the vehicle.
