On August 21, 1931, Deputy Sheriff Charles Lee Sims, aged 53, of the Butler County Sheriff's Office in Alabama, was fatally shot while responding to a domestic dispute between a man and his wife. Upon entering the couple's home, Deputy Sims was shot in the head with a shotgun by the husband. The assailant fled the scene and was apprehended six weeks later in Albion, Michigan.
