On March 20, 2015, at approximately 3:50 a.m., Anchorage police responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of East 12th Avenue and Hyder Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 54-year-old Abraham Lincoln Midgett III suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, Midgett succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
