On September 10, 2023, 51-year-old Anthony Dewain Word was fatally shot in the driveway of a residence on Dewey Heights Road in northeast Jefferson County, near Clay, Alabama. At approximately 3:00 p.m., deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the area and discovered Word's body upon arrival. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, but the suspect had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
