On August 15, 2020, 36-year-old Dalton Matthew Bannister of Blountsville, Alabama, was fatally shot in the New Canaan community of Cullman County. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. near a residence along County Road 1854. Authorities reported that Bannister and 26-year-old Tyler Dwight Dooley had planned to rob 24-year-old Levi Benjamin Lawrence.
