On August 15, 2020, 24-year-old Levi Benjamin Lawrence of Cullman, Alabama, was fatally shot during a robbery attempt in the New Canaan community of Cullman County. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. near a residence on County Road 1854. Lawrence was invited to the location by acquaintances, where he was confronted by 36-year-old Dalton Matthew Bannister of Blountsville and 26-year-old Tyler Dwight Dooley of Arab.
