On June 16, 2019, at approximately 9:41 p.m., 18-year-old Deonte Keshawn Puryear was fatally shot in the Summerchase subdivision of Calera, Alabama. Puryear, a resident of Alabaster, was found with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Calera Police Department arrested 24-year-old Jaylin Tevin Washington of Calera in connection with the shooting. At the time, charges were pending as the investigation continued.
