In September 2019, 18-month-old Enzo McCormack from Smoke Rise, Alabama, suffered fatal injuries due to severe abuse. On September 6, his mother, Samantha McCormack, stopped at the Locust Fork Hardware Store with Enzo unresponsive in the vehicle. She claimed he had choked on cereal earlier that day. A family member discovered Enzo in critical condition, leading to his hospitalization at Children's of Alabama, where he remained on a ventilator until his death on September 9.
