In the pre-dawn hours of February 22, 1990, the life of 28-year-old Caucasian female Michelle Larae Halling was tragically cut short in a horrifying act of violence in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A fire, later determined to be arson, engulfed her home at approximately 2:00 a.m.. Neighbors were awakened by her desperate screams for help and rushed to offer assistance, but the intensity of the blaze made any rescue attempt impossible.
