On January 30, 2011, Hamadi Swei, a 51-year-old male from Fort Worth, Texas, was discovered lying facedown on the enclosed side porch of The Hills Apartment complex. His body was in a state of decomposition, and investigators found multiple stab wounds. At the time of the discovery, authorities had no immediate leads on the circumstances surrounding his death or the identity of the perpetrator.
For months, the case remained unsolved until investigators received a crucial tip.
Five months after the murder, authorities learned that two individuals in Warsaw, Virginia, had been overheard discussing the killing of Hamadi Swei. Detectives from Fort Worth traveled to Warsaw to pursue the lead. Their investigation led them to Duane Haley, 47, and Judy Britton, 43. Police determined that Britton had worked with Swei and that she and Haley had gone to his apartment on Christmas Day with the intent to rob him. During the robbery, Swei was stabbed multiple times, leading to his death.
Following the investigation, both Britton and Haley were arrested and charged with capital murder. They were taken into custody and held at the Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Virginia, with a bond set at $500,000. Authorities credited the breakthrough in the case to the information obtained from the conversations overheard in Virginia, which ultimately led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
