Fabian Guerrero, a 21-year-old from Fort Worth, Texas, was tragically killed on May 20, 2012, in a drive-by shooting. The incident occurred as Guerrero and three other individuals were traveling south on the South Freeway’s frontage road around 9:20 p.m. when a second vehicle pulled up alongside their white Toyota Camry and opened fire. The shooting resulted in the deaths of both Guerrero and 22-year-old Diane Guerra, while the two other passengers sustained injuries.
The victims were attacked just as they were exiting onto Sycamore School Road, and both Guerrero and Guerra died at the scene.
The gunman in the shooting was identified as Joe Mark Sessums, who was reportedly riding in the backseat of a Chevrolet Tahoe when he fired fourteen rounds into the moving Camry. The shooting was believed to be gang-related, and Sessums later faced charges for the attack. The violence stemmed from escalating tensions between two gangs in the area, which had generally coexisted until a series of incidents heightened animosity between them.
