On May 29, 2013, Adam Sandoval, an 18-year-old from Houston, Texas, was fatally shot in an incident that occurred at around 3:15 p.m. Sandoval was inside a van parked in front of an apartment complex along Cedar Post Lane in northwest Houston when two individuals approached him. After a brief conversation, Sandoval attempted to reverse the vehicle but ended up hitting a tree. At that point, one of the suspects shot him multiple times, leading to his death at the scene.
The suspects fled through the nearby apartment complex after the shooting.
Adam's mother was in the front passenger seat of the van during the incident but was not physically harmed. Authorities took her for questioning in hopes of gaining more insight into the events that led to the shooting. Neighbors in the area mentioned that Adam and his family had previously lived in the complex, and he was on the verge of graduating from high school.
The motive behind the attack has not been fully clarified, but investigators suggested that the shooting may have been gang-related. The police were actively seeking the suspects, both described as Hispanic males around the age of 18, with a similar physical build—approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a slender frame and short black hair. Despite these descriptions, the attackers were not immediately apprehended, and law enforcement urged anyone with information to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers to assist with the investigation.
