Carroll Oliver, aged 68, was tragically killed on January 12, 2016, during a robbery outside the McDonald's restaurant he owned in East Houston. The incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. at the McDonald's on the 5300 block of East Freeway. Oliver was reportedly walking to his car, preparing to go to a nearby bank when he was confronted by at least two individuals in a white SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe. The suspects attempted to rob him, leading to a confrontation during which Oliver was shot. He died at the scene before he could receive medical assistance.
The investigation revealed that the suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Witnesses described one of the suspects as approximately six feet tall, wearing a black jacket with white stripes. The other suspect’s details remain unknown. Despite the ongoing investigation and appeals to the community for assistance, the assailants have not yet been apprehended. Crime Stoppers of Houston offered a $35,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the crime.
Oliver was well-known and beloved within the community, having owned the McDonald's franchise for nearly 37 years. His death sparked an emotional response from the community, including a candlelight vigil held in his memory. His contribution to the local neighborhood was recognized posthumously, and Houston's mayor declared February 16 as "Carroll Oliver Day" in honor of his service and dedication to the community.
