On August 29, 2016, Charles Alvarez, a 34-year-old Hispanic male from Houston, Texas, was fatally shot. The incident occurred at Buffalo Run Park in Missouri City, where a 16-year-old male witness to several gang-related murders was also killed. Investigations by the Missouri City and Houston Police Departments identified Douglas Alexander Herrera-Hernandez, a 20-year-old Hispanic male, as a suspect in these murders.
Herrera-Hernandez, also known by the alias "Terror," was subsequently charged with capital murder in the 240th State District Court in Fort Bend County.
Further investigation revealed that Herrera-Hernandez was involved in another fatal shooting on July 9, 2017, at 265 El Dorado in Houston. In this incident, Kevin Alvarez, a 26-year-old Hispanic male, was shot multiple times following an argument. Herrera-Hernandez was identified as the shooter and charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court in Harris County. He was apprehended on July 29, 2017, in Arlington, Virginia, by the Arlington County Police Department in collaboration with the FBI.
Authorities believe that Herrera-Hernandez's actions were gang-related, targeting individuals connected to or knowledgeable about gang activities. His arrest brought some closure to the families affected by these tragic events. The collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies were instrumental in apprehending Herrera-Hernandez and bringing him to justice.
