His remains were discovered under a refrigerator near Blues Beach, approximately a year after he was last seen in Willits. Stanley had been shot multiple times, and his death was ruled a homicide. This case remained unsolved for many years until 2013, when the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office named Robert James Parks, a commercial fisherman, as a suspect.
Parks, however, had committed suicide in 1998, leaving the case unresolved.
