On a Monday afternoon in May of 2012, a 42 year old Philadelphia father, Shawn Davis Sr., set out to pick up his son from St. Joseph's Preparatory School, a routine trip that ended in tragedy. While stopping for gas on May 21, 2012, Davis was shot multiple times in his car. A friend who was with him at the time was unharmed. Despite his grave injuries, Davis managed to drive about a block before the car flipped.
His son, a freshman at the school, waited for hours, unaware of the violent turn his father's day had taken. After numerous unanswered calls, a family friend arrived to take the teen to Temple University Hospital. There, he briefly saw his father, unconscious, before being told a few hours later that he had died. An obituary for a Shawn Davis from Philadelphia listed a date of death as May 27, 2012.
The search for those responsible for Shawn Davis Sr.'s death has yielded no publicly available information regarding any suspects or arrests in the years since the shooting. The case remains a painful and unresolved chapter for his family.
