Matthew Vearnon, a 31-year-old man, was shot and killed on August 23, 2015, during an attempted home invasion in Pittsburgh's Perry South neighborhood. The incident took place at his residence on Chester Avenue. Three men attempted to break into Vearnon's home around 1:30 a.m., leading to an exchange of gunfire between Vearnon and the intruders. During the confrontation, Vearnon was shot and later succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital.
