Do you know what happened to Rebekah? In the early morning hours of April 23, 1995, the body of 18-year-old Rebekah L. Barrett was discovered lying in a street in Collinsville, Oklahoma. Initially, the scene was treated as a potential hit-and-run accident. Emergency services were dispatched to the location near 1900 West Union Street where they found Barrett unconscious. She was transported to a hospital in Tulsa but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
As the investigation into the young woman's death progressed, the Tulsa
County Sheriff's Office determined that her demise was not the result of a traffic accident. The medical examiner's office ruled her death a homicide, caused by blunt force trauma. It is believed that she was either assaulted at the location where she was found or her body was left there after an assault elsewhere. At the time of her tragic death, Rebekah was the mother of a four-month-old baby girl.
Investigators learned that on the night of her death, Rebekah had been with friends and had been upset about her boyfriend not asking her to the prom. After making a call to him from a payphone, he reportedly became angry, followed the car she was in, and insisted she get into his truck. What transpired after she complied with his demand remains unclear. Though her boyfriend was a person of interest in the case, no arrests have ever been made, and no charges have been filed in connection with the death of Rebekah L. Barrett. Her case remains an unsolved homicide, leaving her family with unanswered questions for decades.
