On May 16, 1994, Arthur Works, a married father of six and a church deacon, was tragically shot and killed along with his colleague, Raymond Ogle, while they were working at JR Motor Sales on West Third Street in Dayton, Ohio. The dealership, which was known as a "buy here, pay here" used car lot, became a crime scene when an unknown assailant entered the premises in the evening and fatally shot both men.
Arthur was in a back room at the time, while Raymond was in the front office, visible from the street. Investigators believe that Arthur may have surprised the assailant, resulting in his murder as well.
Over the years, there have been various theories about the motive behind the killings, but the case remains unsolved. In the weeks leading up to the incident, Raymond had been seen with a woman who was reportedly also involved with a major drug dealer in the Dayton area. This connection has led some to believe that the murders might have been ordered by the drug dealer, possibly out of jealousy or a personal vendetta. Interestingly, Raymond had been involved in an altercation about ten days prior to the murder, allegedly related to the same woman. The lack of evidence of robbery at the scene suggests that this was likely a targeted act, rather than a random crime.
Despite efforts by law enforcement and appeals for public assistance, the case remains unsolved. Detectives have continuously sought information, particularly related to a mystery woman who was believed to have knowledge of the events leading up to the crime. Investigators still hope that someone who knows what happened may eventually come forward, providing closure for the families of both victims after decades of uncertainty.
