On August 7, 2005, Martez Avery, a 19-year-old from Columbus, Ohio, was fatally shot while traveling on Interstate 70 West. Martez was the passenger in a vehicle that had recently left the Big Easy Bar, located on Brice Road. The shooting occurred between 2:30 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. as the car traveled westward between Interstate 270 and Hamilton Road.
