Kendrick Pope, a 16-year-old from Dayton, Ohio, was tragically shot to death on September 11, 2008. Unfortunately, violence struck again at the vigil. Kendrick's father, Dwight Hardy, was shot and killed, while another man, Augustine Ubaike Jr., was injured during the event. The vigil, which aimed to bring awareness to the growing violence and advocate for peace, instead ended in more heartbreak for the community. Despite police efforts, no arrests have been made in either Kendrick's murder or the subsequent shooting of his father at the vigil.
