On July 5, 2012, 17-year-old Reanna Rodgers was shot at a Mobil gas station located off Cleveland Avenue and Weber Road in the North Linden area of Columbus, Ohio. She was at the gas station with another man when an altercation led to gunfire, ultimately resulting in both being shot. Reanna sustained a gunshot wound to the head, and though she was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery, she was given only a 2% chance of survival.
Her family was forced to make the devastating decision to remove her from life support the following day. They decided to allow her to be an organ donor, providing life to others even after her untimely death.
Reanna's homicide remains unsolved. The Columbus Division of Police initially investigated the case but eventually transferred it to the Homicide Case Review Unit, which examines unsolved cases when original leads have been exhausted. Despite the passage of over a decade, no new developments have been reported in the case, leaving her family with ongoing questions and uncertainty. Reanna was described by her sister Nicole as "tiny but fierce" and as having a big heart. The lack of resolution in her case has left her family, including her older sister, longing for answers and closure.
The Columbus Police Department continues to revisit unsolved homicides like Reanna's through their Cold Case Unit, employing advances in forensic technology and encouraging public tips to help generate new leads.
