On August 7, 2013, three-year-old Alonzo Soeuk was found unresponsive and was rushed to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Despite the efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead later that evening. The suspicious nature of Alonzo's injuries led authorities to open an investigation, and soon after, it was determined by the Franklin County Coroner's office that his death was a homicide.
Alonzo was living with his mother, Linda Soeuk, and her boyfriend, Roberto Avina-Casillas. It was later revealed that Avina-Casillas, who had been living with Linda for about a week, was involved in an argument with her before Alonzo's injuries occurred. The argument escalated, resulting in a violent assault that led to Alonzo's fatal injuries. A warrant was subsequently issued for Avina-Casillas on a murder charge. However, he fled and remains at large, with authorities believing that he might have returned to Mexico or be staying with family members in the Columbus area.
The police are still actively searching for Avina-Casillas, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Columbus Police Department or Crime Stoppers. Alonzo's death marks a heartbreaking loss for his family, especially his mother, who has continued to seek justice for her son while also trying to stay strong for her other child, a nine-month-old boy at the time of the incident.
