On November 12, 2014, 61-year-old Alan Lapash Sr. was out for a walk with his adult son near a city park in Lorain, Ohio, when they were approached by three men on foot. One of the men pretended to offer a handshake, but instead grabbed Alan's son and pulled him in, leading to an assault on both Alan and his son. During the attack, a nearby resident intervened and managed to chase off the suspects.
The attackers were never identified, and despite this intervention, Alan suffered severe head injuries that left him in a coma.
Alan Lapash remained in a coma until his death on September 12, 2015, succumbing to the injuries he sustained during the assault. The incident occurred at 2620 Oakdale Avenue in Lorain, Ohio, and was investigated by the Lorain Police Department.
