On August 12, 2016, Tyreshia Cody, age 25, was involved in a tragic shooting incident alongside Tremalik Russell, age 21, in Columbus, Ohio. The incident occurred in the Linden area, behind a duplex located at 1139 E. 22nd Avenue. Patrol officers responded to a reported shooting at approximately 4:07 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the maroon 2003 Pontiac Bonneville in which Cody and Russell were seated had crashed into a utility pole. Both individuals were suffering from gunshot wounds.
Russell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tyreshia Cody was transported to Grant Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and unfortunately passed away around 24 hours later, on August 13, 2016, at 4:45 p.m. The police identified the deaths as the 60th and 61st homicides of that year in Columbus. According to witness statements, a man was seen fleeing from the vehicle after the shooting. Columbus police have since been appealing to the public for information, offering a reward for any details that could lead to the arrest or indictment of those responsible for this crime.
Authorities continue to urge anyone with information regarding the case to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers. This tragic event remains unresolved, and law enforcement is still seeking justice for both Tyreshia Cody and Tremalik Russell.
