Demeki Lashae Walker, a 39-year-old woman from Columbus, Ohio, was tragically found dead in the early hours of December 23, 2016. Her body was discovered by Columbus firefighters responding to reports of a trash fire on South Eureka Avenue. Upon extinguishing the flames, the responders realized the fire had been set to conceal her body, leading investigators to treat the scene as a homicide.
Evidence suggested that Walker had been murdered before her body was transported to this location, where the fire was used to attempt to destroy evidence.
Several months later, two brothers, Dawan and Thomas Dortch, were arrested and charged in connection with Walker’s death. Surveillance footage obtained from her home showed the brothers near her residence shortly before the crime, and additional forensic evidence linked them to the scene. Blood traces and a spent shell casing were found at her home, further supporting suspicions that she was killed there before her body was moved. Investigators also discovered gloves at the crime scene containing DNA from both suspects and Walker, which reinforced the charges brought against the Dortch brothers. Despite these findings, the exact motive behind Walker’s murder remains unclear, and authorities continue to seek additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.
