Kirk was found fatally stabbed outside her home on Constitution Drive, in a quiet neighborhood near Duke University. On that fateful afternoon, she was preparing to leave for work, loading her car while her 2-year-old daughter was sleeping inside. According to investigators, she was attacked and stabbed multiple times in her driveway before collapsing near the door to her home.
The investigation revealed that a witness saw a middle-aged white man driving a green sedan near the scene around the time of the murder. However, despite this lead and extensive efforts by the police, including ruling out her husband as a suspect, no arrests were made. With very little physical evidence and no clear motive, the case remains unsolved. Kirk's family, including her sister who discovered the horrifying scene, has long sought justice and closure.
