Dyshawn Hammonds, a 21-year-old from Buffalo, New York, was fatally shot on October 29, 2012. His death was one of many contributing to a sharp rise in homicides in Buffalo that year. In 2012, Buffalo experienced a 40% increase in homicides compared to the previous year, reaching 50 homicides. Many of these were tied to gang activity and drug-related violence, although there were cases, like Dyshawn's, where innocent individuals were caught in the violence that plagued the city.
