On a cold February evening in Buffalo, New York, the life of 41-year-old Mario S. Hayes was tragically cut short. Just before 9 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017, police responded to a call of a shooting at the intersection of Genesee Street and Ivy Street on the city's East Side. Upon arrival, they discovered that Hayes had been shot. He was rushed to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
