A night clerk at the Fireside Motel is found shot to death
On the night of August 30, 1980, 73-year-old Henry Travers was working as a night clerk at the Fireside Motel, located along Route 28 in Salem, New Hampshire. Travers, a resident of Derry, was found shot to death during his shift. His body was discovered in the office of the motel, and despite the crime occurring in a relatively public place, there were no witnesses or immediate leads. His murder shocked the small community, which was unaccustomed to such violent acts.
