In the pre-dawn hours of September 19, 2010, a violent encounter in Las Vegas claimed the life of 19-year-old Eric Taybron, an African-American male. The incident began to unfold around 12:25 a.m. when Taybron and a group of friends were walking on Viking Road, just west of Wynn Road. They were approached by two unidentified young men who asked them about a party.
Sometime after this initial interaction, the two individuals confronted Taybron's group again, this time at an apartment
complex in the 3800 block of Wynn Road. In a sudden escalation of violence, one of the suspects drew a weapon and fired, striking both Eric Taybron and an unarmed security guard. The assailants fled the scene, leaving behind a chaotic and tragic aftermath.
Both Taybron and the security guard were rushed to University Medical Center for treatment. Taybron, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds, ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The security guard was treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The Clark County Coroner's Office later confirmed Taybron's cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the capture of the perpetrators. The suspects were described by police as two Black males between the ages of 16 and 20 who were both seen wearing red clothing at the time of the shooting. Despite the initial investigation and the public appeal for information, there have been no subsequent announcements of any arrests made in connection with the murder of Eric Taybron.
