On July 30, 2011, 16-year-old Najon Jackson was shot and killed just before midnight in East Oakland, on the 9300 block of Sunnyside Street. His death was part of a particularly violent weekend in Oakland, which saw multiple homicides in different areas. Jackson's murder was especially tragic as it occurred less than a year after his older brother, Nario Jackson, was also shot and killed in the city.
