Ruth Harris was a 78-year-old Black woman from Detroit, Michigan, known to her family and community as a dedicated volunteer and a woman of strict routine. A cook for her family and an active volunteer at the Detroit Institute of Arts, she maintained a consistent schedule that made her sudden disappearance all the more alarming to her loved ones. She was described as standing 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, with a medium brown complexion and salt-and-pepper hair.
