A cook for her family and an active volunteer at the Detroit Institute of Arts, she maintained a consistent schedule that made her sudden disappearance all the more alarming to her loved ones. She was described as standing 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, with a medium brown complexion and salt-and-pepper hair.
On the morning of June 27, 2012, she was last seen at approximately 9:30 a.m. at her residence in the 17300 block of Edinborough Street. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a red housecoat. Her son, Keith Harris, was the last person to see her before she vanished. He later recounted that their daily interactions were a cornerstone of their lives, relying on each other for everything from meals to conversations about the day's events. He noted that her mental and physical condition were good, deepening the mystery of her whereabouts.
Following her disappearance, law enforcement and local media circulated her description in hopes of generating leads. By September 2012, she was featured in a "Missing in the Metro" segment, which highlighted long-term missing persons cases in the Detroit area. Police urged anyone with information regarding her location to contact the Criminal Investigations Bureau, as her family continued to seek answers regarding her sudden departure from her established life and routine.
