Daniel Schoenle, 44, from San Diego, California, tragically died in a crash on June 26, 2013. Schoenle was driving a 2000 Dodge Stratus when it lost control, hitting a curb on Friars Road. The vehicle veered off the road, striking a boulder, and caught fire. Although Schoenle managed to escape the wreckage, two of his passengers, Lizzy Garcia and Lupe Acosta, both in their early 20s, were trapped and burned to death. The crash occurred after Schoenle had consumed alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine during a night of partying.
