Tyrone Jones, aged 56, was fatally shot on October 14, 2013, while sitting in the carport of his home in San Bernardino, California. Jones was well-known in his community for his efforts to reduce violence, particularly through his work with the Westside Nubians, an organization he co-founded in 2007. The group aimed to keep the peace in the community, patrolling streets, organizing block parties, and holding meetings to foster harmony among local youth.
On the day of his murder, an assailant reportedly approached Jones, leaned over to look him in the face, and then shot him in the back of the head. Despite a description of the suspect—around 5'8", stocky, and wearing a black t-shirt and camouflage shorts—the case remains unsolved. Authorities have offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the killer, urging anyone with knowledge of the crime to come forward to help bring justice to Jones and his family.
