In the early hours of a July morning in 2016, a young man's life was tragically cut short on the northwest side of Detroit. Cameron Houston Jr., a 22-year-old male, was shot and killed in what police described as a robbery. The incident unfolded at approximately 2 a.m. in the 20100 block of McIntyre, near West 8 Mile and Lahser roads.
Houston was sitting in a car with his girlfriend and nephew when an unknown man approached their vehicle.
The assailant inquired about marijuana before brandishing a silver revolver and demanding their belongings. A struggle for the weapon ensued, during which Houston was shot in the hand. The gunman then shot him in the leg before fleeing the scene in an older model Oldsmobile Alero. Despite the efforts of those present, Cameron Houston Jr. succumbed to his injuries on July 25, 2016.
In the wake of the shooting, the Detroit Police Department actively sought the public's assistance in identifying the person responsible for Houston's death. Authorities released a detailed description of the suspect, describing him as a Black male, approximately 20 to 25 years old, with a slim build and a medium to dark complexion. He was further described as having a stubble-like mustache, an unconnected beard about an inch in length, dark brown eyes, and two thick black braids that hung down to his neck. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly wearing a white t-shirt underneath a black hoodie and blue jeans.
Despite the release of the suspect's description and a cash reward offered by Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest, the case has remained a topic of discussion in online forums dedicated to unsolved murders. As of the latest available information, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of a suspect in the fatal shooting of Cameron Houston Jr. His death left a void in the lives of his loved ones, and the search for justice continues.
