On December 29, 2009, Joseph Beatty, aged 38, was found shot in the 2300 block of Greenmount Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland. The circumstances of his death were initially unclear, with authorities taking some time before officially ruling it a homicide. His death occurred during a period of high violence in Baltimore, which saw numerous homicides throughout the year. Beatty's case added to the growing list of victims caught in the cycle of violence affecting Baltimore's neighborhoods.
