On February 6, 2012, Alfonso Thompson Jr., a 23-year-old resident of New Carrollton, Maryland, was shot and killed near the New Carrollton Metro Station. The incident occurred late at night, around 11:20 p.m., when Metro Transit police responded to reports of gunfire at the bus bay area near Ellin Road. When police arrived, they found Thompson had been shot multiple times. Despite efforts from Prince George's County Fire & EMS, Thompson succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
