Peter Marvit, a 51-year-old NIH researcher and former University of Maryland professor, was shot and killed on the night of September 17, 2012, near his home in the Herring Run Park area of Baltimore. Marvit was returning from a choir practice when he was shot multiple times next to his car. The incident, which occurred about four blocks from his home, is believed to have been an attempted robbery.
