Do you know who killed 22 year old Eric Bernard Talbert Jr in 2015? In the summer of 2015, a young Black/African American man's life was cut tragically short in a violent encounter that remains a painful open wound for his family and community. Eric Bernard Talbert Jr., a 22-year-old male from District Heights, Maryland, was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, June 13th. The incident occurred in the 7200 block of Donnell Place in the neighboring community of Forestville, where patrol officers were called to the scene at approximately 9:10 p.m.
They discovered Talbert outside, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite any efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
From the outset of their investigation, Prince George's County police detectives stated they did not believe the shooting was a random act of violence. This suggested that Talbert may have been targeted by his assailant or assailants. In the immediate aftermath, investigators worked diligently to piece together the events of that fatal evening, seeking to identify a suspect and a motive behind the homicide. To encourage community members to come forward with any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case, a substantial reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any tips that would result in an arrest and indictment.
Despite the passage of time and the offer of a significant reward, the case of Eric Talbert Jr.'s murder has grown cold. The initial investigation, while establishing that the shooting was likely not random, did not yield any publicly identified suspects. No arrests have ever been made in connection with his death, and the case officially remains open. The lack of resolution has left his loved ones without answers and a sense of justice, as the individual or individuals responsible for his killing have never been held accountable. The community continues to hold out hope that one day new information will emerge that will finally bring a close to this unsolved tragedy.
