Randy Murillo, a 33-year-old resident of San Bernardino, was later arrested in connection with the shooting. Investigators linked Murillo to the crime two days after the incident. The homicide marked the 39th in San Bernardino that year, highlighting the violent summer in the city, which saw several more deaths in the following days. Murillo's case was reviewed by the District Attorney for further prosecution.
