On a chilly evening in New Orleans, just six days before Christmas in 2015, the life of a 54-year-old Black woman named Vanessa King was tragically cut short. On Saturday, December 19th, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the calm in the Mid-City neighborhood. When police responded to reports of shots fired, they discovered Vanessa King lying on the sidewalk in the 2500 block of Dumaine Street.
