In December 2018, Manuel “Noli” Duran, a 56-year-old Filipino man from Honolulu, Hawaii, embarked on an ambitious journey that has since become one of the most perplexing missing persons cases in recent memory. Duran informed his coworkers that he planned to kayak from Hawaii to the Philippines—a voyage spanning approximately 5,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean. He estimated the journey would take about 30 days, during which he aimed to visit his girlfriend and daughter in the Philippines. He left his workplace on December 3, 2018, to begin this endeavor, with plans to return in January 2019.
The Final Farewell
The last known contact with Duran occurred on December 7, 2018. It is believed that on this date, he set sail from Honolulu in a turquoise kayak, embarking on his trans-Pacific journey.
