Dennis Rogers, a 54-year-old resident of Plum Grove, Texas, led a life marked by routine and resilience. An amateur race car driver and former Shell Oil electrician, his world changed dramatically in 2007 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a race. This incident left him with significant short-term memory loss, requiring him to relearn basic skills, including walking. Despite these challenges, Dennis maintained a daily habit of walking around the loop near his home, often checking in with family members during his strolls .
On March 8, 2012, Dennis embarked on his usual walk but failed to return home. His daughter, Crystal Usher, contacted him at 5:48 p.m. to inform him that dinner was ready. During this call, Dennis expressed that he was lost, describing his surroundings as "lots of pine trees," a trail, and a deer stand. Despite efforts by his family to locate him, including honking car horns and calling out, they were unsuccessful. Dennis was persuaded to call 911, providing dispatchers with his approximate location before his phone battery died .
In the days following his disappearance, a massive search operation was launched. Over 200 searchers, including volunteers, law enforcement, and rescue teams, scoured the dense 67,000-acre forest area using helicopters equipped with infrared cameras, horses, dogs, and amphibious vehicles. The search was hindered by challenging terrain, inclement weather, and rising water levels due to continuous rain. Despite these exhaustive efforts, no trace of Dennis was found .
Approximately a week after Dennis's disappearance, the Liberty County Sheriff's Office received information suggesting possible foul play. A tipster reported overhearing a conversation at a local bar implying that Dennis had been found and harmed. This led authorities to shift the focus from a search and rescue mission to a criminal investigation. Several persons of interest were identified and questioned, but no arrests were made, and the case remains unsolved ....Read More
