On April 30, 2022, a tragic double homicide occurred in Albuquerque, New Mexico, resulting in the deaths of Jarrod Jackson and Nicole Sanchez, both 25 years old. The victims were roommates of the suspect, Samuel Archuleta, 21, who resided with them at a residence on Girard.
Samuel Archuleta is accused of fatally shooting his roommates. According to the investigation, Archuleta had been experiencing significant issues with his roommates, including complaints about them breaking into his
room and abusing his dog. Additionally, Archuleta's father expressed concerns about his son's mental health and alcohol consumption, which may have contributed to the escalating tensions.
Following the incident, Archuleta fled Albuquerque and contacted his parents, informing them that he had killed his roommates. He told his father and stepmother over the phone, 'Dad, I had enough. I just let go. I shot my roommates in the face and they are dead. I'm sorry. I will see you when I see you.'.
Albuquerque police detectives collaborated with law enforcement in the Durango area to apprehend Archuleta. On May 11, 2022, the Durango Police Department received a tip that Archuleta was inside a Walmart store in Durango. Within 23 minutes of receiving this information, police formed a plan and took Archuleta into custody. The arrest was carried out carefully due to the heavily populated area and the fact that Archuleta was reported to be armed and dangerous. However, at the time of his arrest, Archuleta was not armed. Commander Casey Malone approached Archuleta from behind and ordered him to the ground, ensuring a safe and incident-free arrest.
The investigation revealed that Archuleta had shot his roommates in the face, and police found the victims dead in the living room area of their residence. The swift and coordinated effort between Albuquerque and Durango law enforcement led to the successful apprehension of the suspect, bringing a measure of closure to the families of the victims.
