On August 14, 2016, 31-year-old Alfonso Kyles was shot and killed in Chicago's Near West Side neighborhood. He was found on a sidewalk near Touhy-Herbert Park in the early morning hours, around 3 a.m. This tragic incident was part of a violent weekend in Chicago, where multiple shootings left nine people dead. Kyles' death occurred during a surge of gun violence that plagued the city, especially in 2016, which was one of Chicago’s deadliest years in nearly two decades.
